After the extreme linearity of the weapons paintings I am trying to loosen up the way I paint. I have been focussing mostly on trees. They provide a good opportunity for loose painting because they are deadened if you become bogged down in painting every leaf. They are also iconic, hence the way the paintings are of one tree at a time.
This work will form part of a sideshow with the weapons when it goes on exhibit during the Kilkenny Arts Festival on the 7th of August 2009. After that both shows will travel to the Garter Lane Gallery in Waterford where they will be on show during September and October 2009.
