Russborough Art Car Boot Fair

A contemporary art event like no other, an art world mash-up of the car boot sale with the contemporary art fair! The very best of Ireland’s contemporary artists sell affordable artworks and collectibles directly to the public or do performative activities such as portrait sketches.

Participating artists include Vera Klute ARHA, Gabhann Dunne, PJ Lynch, Gillian Lawler, Blaise Smith RHA, Joe Dunne RHA, Helen Blake, Sean Molloy, Nicky Hooper, Monika Crowley, Yanny Petters, Eoin MacLochlainn, Hugh Cummins, Paul Murnaghan, Oscar Fouz Lopez, Catherine Barron and many, many more. Small original works by these artists fetch hundreds or thousands of euro but at this fair, budding collectors can buy something fun and affordable made just for this event or during the event. Get in early to have your portrait sketched by Children’s Laureate P J Lynch, Hennessy Portrait award winner Vera Klute or Women on Walls portraitist, Blaise Smith. The National Print Museum will be there with their outreach van customising prints and running workshops.

Una Sealy RHA at this years Car boot Art Fair please fill out the form

below.

Each sitting will be 30 minutes each and drawings are priced at €100. Una Sealy will be doing small acrylic heads and PJ and Blaise will be doing LArgish - A2 or A3 drwings in charcoal and white chalk. We will be drawing outdoors, and the public are welcome to watch us while we work.

Adults, preteens and teenagers are welcome as subjects. However although the artists enjoy drawing younger Children it is often difficult for under 8s to sit really still for a sustained half an hour (especially in what will be very distracting surroundings) so please no children under 8 for this particular event. Thanks.

One of Blaise's exceptional abilities as a painter is to capture a sympathetic likeness. He achieves this by working from Life with the subject for several sittings. This personal approach and the interaction allows him to get to know the person. By seeing someone in their own environment among their own possessions he is able to incorporate the things that are important to them. The finished painting is in the end a collaboration between the Artist and the Sitter, and perhaps this approach is why Blaise has always enjoyed a great success with his portraits on a personal level.

On a professional level he has won many prizes for his portraits and they have been been exhibited far and wide. He has been Commissioned by the OPW for the Dail, and completed several other state commissions. He has also been commissioned by many Institutions such as Trinity College, the Abbey Theatre and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The finished artworks will be on public display in the Royal Irish Academy, the first portraits of female subjects to grace the walls in the Academy’s 230-year history.
